Sarah's Vineyard 8/21 @ Vino Locale

This estate is located just inland of the southern part of the Santa Cruz Mountains (as is the nearby Besson Vyd, where the source many of the grapes). Originally planted in 1978 and expanded in 1989. This winery has long had the reputation as on of the best in the Santa Clara Valley.

'06 Roussanne Estate (SCV) - Nose of lemon, peach and rich brown spice. Oaky frame, flabby round fruit, mostly white peach. I liked the fruit. My thoughts were if they picked maybe a quarter of it earlier, and did that portion in stainless with no malo, this would have been great.
'06 Chard Estate (SCV) - Soft, striking nose, showing lemon curd. Nice spicy oak, lush and round, good acid. Quite good.
'05 Merlot "des Grands Hommes" (SCV) - Nose is warm, rich, a bit minty, pine, custard. Rich, lush, rustic, showing some green peppercorn. This is an excellent expression of Merlot.
'04 Syrah "Besson Vyd." (SCV) - Nose is piney with olallieberry. Sharp blackberry, tangerine, black currant, sandalwood, rosemary, cassis, fresh peas, rosehips, lavender. I like. Could maybe use another year or two.
