Rhys Vineyards Spring Pick-up Day 3/13/10



This was a great opportunity for some of us Rhys customers to sample a few future releases. This should be the last pick-up day at their San Carlos warehouse, as they expect to be fully set up in their Skyline cave by the fall pick-up day.

Alesia '08 Pinot Noir Somona Coast
Nose - lots of mineral, brambly boysenberry, tarragon, yerba buena, hints of black cherry, rosemary, subtle oak spice, with an intriguing lightness and freshness.
Lovely dusty spiciness, boysenberry, mandarin, lime, zest, redwood, an underlying touch of mushroom, with some pithy bitterness on the finish. Drink '12+ 91++ pts

Rhys '08 Pinot Noir Family Farm (San Mateo County)
Nose - smooth, floral, rose jam and strawberry, sappy spice, and boysenberry, pure, rich, with persimmon bread.
Dusty, pert, zesty, olallieberry, lemon, bay, sage, nutmeg, rhubarb pie, roasty, porcini. Drink '15-'30 93-95 pts

'08 Pinot Noir Alpine Vineyard (SCM)
Nose - ethereal spice, smooth rich but restrained fruit, purple basil and rosemary, strawberry, raspberry, boysenberry, roasty, smoky, cardamon, with notes of mango and green melon.
Lovely, roasty, grippy, zesty, boysenberry and green melon, sage, nutmeg, balsa, black plum, lime, cinnamon, with a touch of mushroom and fine dusty tannin on the finish. 95+ pts
Note: the '08 includes the Hillside section, which is usually bottled separately.

Rhys '07 Syrah Horseshoe Vineyard (SCM)
Nose - smooth, pure blackberry, banana cream, plum, raspberry, nutmeg, warm, toasty, rich.
Pure boysenberry, lime, smooth/dusty tannin, a background rusticity, graham cracker, jujube, pithy zest, black plum. Drink '13-'20 92+ pts
